Dictionary

The language of Intent Commerce.

Every discipline develops its own language. The Intent Commerce Framework is built on a small set of concepts that describe how commerce evolves through intentions, interactions and alignment. This Dictionary defines those concepts. Together, they form the shared vocabulary of Intent Commerce.

TERM 03 OF 6

Representations

The understanding each Commerce Domain builds of a commercial situation.

Long definition

In the Intent Commerce Framework, a Representation is the internal understanding that a Commerce Domain builds of a commercial situation.

Representations are continuously constructed and enriched through Interactions, as Commerce Domains exchange and interpret Commercial Signals. They are shaped by context, experience, objectives and available information.

A Representation is never the commercial situation itself. It is each Commerce Domain's interpretation of that situation.

Why it matters

Commerce does not happen between objective realities.

It happens between the Representations that Commerce Domains build of one another and of the commercial situation.

Every Interaction has the potential to enrich the Representations that Commerce Domains build of one another and of the commercial situation. As these Representations become richer, stronger Alignment becomes possible.

In Practice

A buyer believes that a product is too expensive.

The seller believes that the buyer is only comparing prices.

Meanwhile, the market reflects limited availability, making the product objectively scarce.

Each Commerce Domain acts according to its own Representation of the situation—not the situation itself.

As additional Commercial Signals are exchanged through Interactions, these Representations may evolve, bringing participants closer to Alignment.
